As it so often does, Mercedes-Benz led the motor industry in the 2000s when it became the first manufacturer to incorporate a ceramic coating into its paintwork from the factory. Starting with high-end models like the E, S and SL Classes, this ‘Ceramiclear’ coating gradually became available on all Mercedes models. This coating contains microscopic ceramic particles, making the paintwork more resistant to scratches, swirls and fading.
For Mercedes without the Ceramiclear coating, or customers wanting the ultimate in protection, Auto Protek can install an aftermarket ceramic coating. This bonds to the upper layers of the paintwork at a molecular level, creating a hard and shiny surface that resists light scratches as well as chemical damage. It also makes your Mercedes easier to clean, since the coating resists dirt, dust and other residues. A quick rinse and wipe-down will restore the paintwork to a shining condition. Our ceramic coatings are hydrophobic, so they give that high-end ‘beading’ effect in the rain. As well as making your Mercedes look great in the rain, this also prevents water spots and stains and protects the paintwork from damage from rain, spray and salt.
At Auto Protek we offer ceramic coatings from five renowned manufacturers because, in our lengthy experience, some work better than others on different materials and surfaces. We can also go one better than the factory and provide ceramic coatings for your Mercedes’ interior to keep leather, plastic and rubber from damage from stains. As durable as Mercedes paintwork can be, we can always go further to protect your prized car. This is also the only protection we would recommend for classic Mercedes built before the 1990s, which were painted with enamel paint which is not properly compatible with modern ceramic coatings.
We work with multiple suppliers of PPF and have built up a stock of patterns for hundreds of models of cars, including all major contemporary Mercedes models and key classic models. These patterns are cut into PPF using our computer-controlled plotter. This ensures a precise fit and alignment. We also have our own PPF installation booth with state-of-the-art lighting and dust filtration.
To suit different budgets and needs, we offer several different packages for PPF, whether you just want to protect just the most vulnerable parts of your Mercedes from stone chips or get PPF applied to the entire vehicle or something in between. We also install PPFs for interior surfaces, touch screens and even your Mercedes’ key fob.
As sumptuous as their cars can be, Mercedes does not correct the paintwork at the factory – panels are painted and finished by mass-production within set limits for quality and appearance. This means that even a new Mercedes can have swirls, ‘orange peel’ and, in some particular colour and paint options, slight mismatches in tone between panels. At Auto Protek, our detailing and correcting services can often improve the look of even a brand-new Mercedes, adding deep lustre, smooth shine and even colour tone.
And unless a Mercedes is lightly used, kept garaged and never driven in harsh weather, the paint and its coatings will begin to degrade from the moment it leaves the dealer. Mercedes paintwork is significantly thicker and more durable than on a mass-market car, but the process is unstoppable. After a few years, you may find the colour going ‘flat’ and microscratches, ‘hologram’ effects, hazing and other signs of weathering in the paint.
