McLaren Detailing

Not many car makers start life as racing constructors and then start making road cars. And not many car makers manage to launch the world’s quickest, fastest-accelerating and most costly car with numerous innovations seen for the first time as their first road car. And not many car makers can become meaningful challengers to the established Italian and German makers of sports cars and supercars in just a few years. McLaren did all these things – a true British success story.

Founded in 1963 by New Zealand racing driver Bruce McLaren, McLaren Motor Racing built sports car racers for European and American series before making its Formula One debut in 1966. McLaren’s F1 glory years were in the 1980s, winning six Constructors’ and seven Drivers’ Championships between 1984 and 1991. And this winning ability has continued to the present day, with McLaren taking the Constructors’ Championship in 2024.

McLaren made the jump from racing constructor to road car manufacturer with the famous F1 of 1992 – the world’s fastest production car at the time and still frequently rated as one of the greatest cars ever made. After 106 were made, F1 production ended in 1998. McLaren returned to the road in 2011 with the 12C sports car, intended to match the performance and dynamics of established rivals but with more race-bred technology and comfort and durability to be usable every day. This ethos has continued, with the P1 hybrid offering even more performance, the more accessible 540 and 570 models and touring and sports models like the GT and 750S.

McLaren Car Detailing

Auto Protek can detail your McLaren to meet even the most exacting requirements. We can detail your McLaren to the most thorough standards. A typical detailing operation will take two days. We will clean, clay-bar and machine polish every exterior and internal surface. Even on a brand-new car, this can bring a new level of quality and colour to the appearance.

For cars with some miles on them, we will clean the brake callipers, carry out a full degrease and clean of the engine bay, remove tar and iron deposits from the bodywork and give the interior a deep clean. This can make your McLaren look as good as new.

For our existing or regular customers, we can carry out ‘maintenance details’. When we’ve installed or applied one of our protective coatings, we can check, maintain and renew the coating where needed.

McLaren PPF

For the ultimate in durable protection for your McLaren, whether on the outside or the interior, we recommend our paint protection film services.

We work with multiple suppliers of PPF and have built up a stock of patterns for hundreds of models of cars, including most production McLarens. These patterns are cut into PPF using our computer-controlled plotter. This ensures a precise fit and alignment. We also have our own PPF installation booth with state-of-the-art lighting and dust filtration.

To suit different budgets and needs, we offer several different packages for PPF, whether you just want to protect your McLaren’s low-slung front end from stone chips or get PPF applied to the entire vehicle or something in between. We also install PPFs for interior surfaces, touch screens and even your McLaren’s key fob.

McLaren Ceramic Coating

One of the best ways to preserve your McLaren’s paintwork without committing to endless repetitive care (or keeping it locked up in a garage rather than being used as it is intended!) is to apply a ceramic coating. This bonds to the upper layers of the paintwork at a molecular level, creating a hard and shiny surface that resists light scratches as well as chemical damage. Our ceramic coatings are hydrophobic. This not only gives that photogenic ‘beading’ effect in the rain (so your McLaren will look great whatever the weather) but prevents paint and lacquer damage from water spots and stains.

At Auto Protek we offer ceramic coatings from five renowned manufacturers because, in our lengthy experience, some work better than others on different materials and surfaces. We can also provide ceramic coatings for your McLaren’s interior to keep leather, plastic and rubber from damage from stains. This can also combat longer-term damage from UV light.

McLaren Paint Correction

Auto Protek will always carry out a paint correction process before applying any coating or PPF to your McLaren. The appearance and effectiveness of either of these treatments depend entirely on the condition of the paintwork underneath. However good the protective layer is, it won’t make scratched or swirl-marked paint look any better. A smooth, clean surface also ensures that the PPF or ceramic coating applies and bonds to the paint for best longevity and appearance.

Auto Protek’s paint correction will machine polish away the upper part of the paintwork’s lacquer coat, where the majority of defects and damages are found. This will leave a fresh, smooth and clean surface. Before polishing, we measure the depth of the lacquer and paintwork to see how deep any damage goes and to ensure that we leave enough lacquer to protect the paint underneath.

This newly polished, smooth and clean surface is preserved and protected under PPF or a ceramic coating. Paint correction takes our skilled technicians no less than five hours and up to 30 hours or more for a multi-stage process with heavy, fine and finishing polishing stages at different grades and depths over an entire car.

We also offer paint correction as a stand-alone service to refresh or renew your McLaren’s appearance. If you choose not to have a ceramic coating or PPF applied to your vehicle after paint correction, we will apply a high-gloss sealant.
